The newspaper, citing people familiar with the case, said prosecutors working under Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. recently focused on Weisselberg in an apparent effort to get him to cooperate with the broad criminal investigation. .

Weisselberg, who worked for Trump and his father, Fred Trump, throughout his career, has not been charged with wrongdoing. Spokesmen for the Trump organization did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

Vance spokesman Danny Frost declined to comment on the Times report.
